Curtis David Sackett

Curtis David Sackett spent his youth in and around Southern Oregon’s Rogue River. Graduating with a writing degree from Southern Oregon University, Curtis set his sights on Los Angeles where he landed work on feature films and television commercials as a Production Assistant. The production process was demystified when he discovered a community of dedicated craftsmen and women bonded by a collected effort to construct a story. With his passion for filmmaking he produced numerous short films and documentaries, highlighted by The Three Canvases, which involved a cast of twenty-three actors. His short film When He Came Home screened at the LA Shortsfest. He has worked on several projects as a Director of Photography, including Celebrity Club which premiered at the Las Vegas Film Festival. Venturing into viral territory, he directed the spoof trailer I Am Queen, which enjoyed internet success. Curtis jumped into post production as an editor on the award winning documentary SS United States: A Lady in Waiting. He went on to edit for numerous television shows. With a strong desire to create stories and a daily dedication to the craft, he was awarded three screenwriting awards for three different scripts, including The Best of The West Spurs Award for his screenplay Cutter’s Daughter. Cutter’s Daughter was also a quarter-finalist in the Nicholl Fellowships. Curtis resides with his wife Aziza Ngozi in Los Angeles and tweets @CurtisDSackett

Aziza Ngozi

Aziza Ngozi is the creation of a child of the sixties, and one of the first Peace Corps volunteers, who nurtured her in a creative environment. She grew up attending film festivals, theatre and dance performances and she was hooked. She went off to major in film at Northwestern University, located in the windy city of Chicago. Aziza placed in the top five of the My Neighborhood, My Chicago Short Film Contest for her experimental piece that explored her Northwestern University neighborhood. She was selected to participate in the American Pavilion Student Filmmaker Program at the Cannes Film Festival, where her short film The Cabrini Green Reconstruction, was featured in the Cannes Short Film Corner. Aziza was privileged to be selected as an intern at the world renowned documentary powerhouse Kartemquin (Hoop Dreams) where she learned the secrets of constructing a story.
Following college, Aziza taught Video Production & Editing for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Aziza got her feet wet in television and quickly moved into feature films as First Assistant Editor on the Sony remake of Sparkle with her mentor Editor, Terilyn A. Shropshire, A.C.E. She worked with Akil Productions on BET’s comedy-drama, The Game. Aziza was the First Assistant Editor on the Nina Simone biopic, Nina. Aziza was honored to reunite with Ms. Shropshire, and collaborate with Writer/Director Gina Prince Bythewood on her new film, Beyond The Lights. She recently joined Bruce Beresford’s Cook, working with Editor David Beatty.
Aziza is constantly honing her craft, editing independent projects. Her credits include the award winning webisodes The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl; Friendly Confines; and The Cat Lady Chronicles. She also edited the short films Kay and collaborated with Writer/Director Curtis David Sackett as Producer and Editor of their short film The Three Canvases. She recently edited the upcoming Chicago gun violence drama, Jermaine. Aziza sits on the board of the Motion Picture Editors Guild Board. Aziza enjoys spending time with her family and friends, when she isn’t in a dance class.
